Our Public Library and all of its branches will remain open for all and will not close due to any work disruption today or for the foreseeable future.
Once again, the power of those who love our library and the people who staff it was equal to those at City Hall who see Our Public Library as little more than an expense.
Our ambition for collective bargaining this year was to enhance services to patrons and make Our Public Library stronger.
This turned out to be a tall order. The City and the Library Board fought very hard for gains that would make it easier to privatize Our Public Library or parts of it, or reduce service further — demands reminiscent of those made by the Ford administration.
But, I am happy to report that with your support, we successfully fought off these concessions!
At the same time, we were not successful at pushing an agenda to grow and nurture Our Public Library. But like all things that we value greatly, we will continue to struggle for improved service for all Torontonians.
You have my commitment that we will be a mighty force in the future for a better and stronger public library in Toronto.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
